• After Christmas shopping. Lets be honest here, it is really really difficult for me to pass up a good sale. 75% off Christmas items? Why YES I think I will buy that giant lollypop for next year’s Christmas tree. 3 for $10 underwear? Well I have been wanting to buy some new undies lately… I mean who doesn’t love a bargain?
Here’s where it gets me though— it’s the day after Christmas, and we all (if lucky enough) have just spent the day prior not only celebrating Jesus’s birth, but OPENING PRESENTS. We were opening lots & lots of presents, that if you really think about it, should have been just enough to at least last us the next couple weeks. Or so I thought. Boxing day had Sydney City Westfield packed to the rafters with folks searching for bargain after bargain. Now aren’t these the same people who just days before were spending their time in the same Westfield looking for the same bargains for Christmas presents?
Now this leads me to a couple conclusions: either 1, we’re all part of this cyclical consumerism gig that has us spending money unnecessarily for a temporary high or 2, there must not be anything else to do other than shop because it is still TOO COLD to spend the holidays in true blue Aussie style out by the beach and near the bar-bie. Either way, I’m a little bit sickened with myself and with this consumerism.
So, with that said, 2012’s resolution will be to SIMPLIFY. I am throwing out the unnecessary and bringing in only the necessary.  Here’s hoping I stick with it. Have a fabulous New Years friends, CHEERS!
